Thane Crime: 21-Year-Old Arrested For Shooting Incident Outside Builder’s Bungalow In Ambernath; Second Accused Absconding
Thane: In connection with the case of two unknown assailants who opened fire outside the bungalow of builder Vishwanath Panveklar, a 21-year-old man has been arrested by a team of police on Tuesday afternoon in the city.
The accused has been identified as Khalid Sajid Sayyed (22), a resident of B Cabin Road in Ambernath, who is a auto driver by profession. He was riding a motorcycle while the shooter was a riding pillion.
DCP Sachin Gore of Ulhasnagar Division said, "Our team apprehended the biker and confiscated the motorcycle used in the crime. Our other team is working to apprehend the other accused. We have launched a manhunt for him. So far, the cause of the firing is still unknown because the main accused is absconding".
The police said that the accused will be produced in court on Wednesday. During the questioning, Sayyed revealed the name of the accused who was riding pillion.
CCTV footage that went viral on social media shows two assailants arriving on a bike in front of the house. One of the assailants got off the motorcycle for a second, sat back, took out a revolver and fired two rounds. Meanwhile, two women who had alighted an auto rickshaw stood behind their motor-cycle, appearing frightened.
Following the firing incident, the Shivaji Nagar police and Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Gore rushed to the spot and began the investigation. The police recovered the two bullets from the spot.
A case has been registered under relevant sec-tions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police said Panvelkar resides on the first floor and has an office on the ground floor.
