Punjab Police Busts Pak-Linked Weapon Smuggling Module, 2 Arrested After Encounter In Tarn Taran District

Chandigarh: Punjab police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a weapon smuggling module with the arrest of two persons – said to have been in direct contact with Pakistan-based arms smugglers – after an encounter in Tarn Taran district.

Punjab director general of police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav said that the accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh and Swarn Kumar, residents of Tarn Taran were nabbed after Sukhdev opened fire at a police team which tried to apprehend them. He sustained a bullet injury in retaliatory action and was admitted to the local civil hospital.

Stating that the police recovered a Glock 9 mm and a PX5.30 calibre pistol, seven live cartridges, police said initial probe has revealed that the accused were in touch with Pak-based smugglers.

ANOTHER MODULE BUSTED, 5 PISTOLS RECOVERED

Meanwhile, police also claimed to have busted another weapon smuggling module with US links, arrested an accused, identified as Gurwinder Singh, and recovered five pistols from his possession in Ludhiana district.
