'I overstepped my limits': Anurag Kashyap issues longer apology to Brahmin community for offensive remarks

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who recently provoked the ire of the Brahmin community with an offensive remark, which was followed by an FIR filed against him, has issued a longer apology on his social media pages.

The Dev D and Gangs of Wasseypur had earlier posted a brief apology in which he addressed the hurtful comments directed against him and the rape and death threats against his friends, family members, and colleagues but that seemed to have not done anything to stop the inflow of abusive comments.

"In anger, I overstepped my limits while replying to someone. And I spoke badly about the entire Brahmin community. That community whose members have been in my life, are still there, and make numerous contributions. Today, all of them are hurt by me. My family is hurt by me. Many intellectuals, whom I respect, are hurt by my anger and my way of speaking," he said, adding that in so doing, he has deviated from the issue at hand.

Asking everyone's forgiveness, Kashyap concluded his note by saying that he will work on his anger and will choose the right words if and when he has to address the issue again. "I sincerely apologise to the community to whom I did not want to say this, but wrote it in anger while responding to someone's cheap comment. I apologise to all my friends, my family and the society for my way of speaking and for the abusive language."

The whole controversy began when Kashyap responded to the censorship row pertaining to Anant Mahadevan's film Phule, by questioning why Brahmins have an issue with films portraying caste issues. It got worse when he responded to a condescending comment in a distasteful manner.
