'Aap Jaisa Koi' to 'Toaster': Netflix India Originals to look forward to

After the R Madhavan-Nayanthara feature Test streamed on Netflix recently, and the Saif Ali Khan-Jaideep Ahlawat starrer, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, which is about to stream on April 25, Netflix is lining up three 2025 originals, feature-length films in the Hindi language, for release.

The titles were announced by Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Netflix India's Head of Originals, at Netflix's Asia-Pacific showcase event in Tokyo. “This year is going to be our most diverse yet. We are bringing fresh, genre-defining stories with some of India’s finest talents,” she said. The films are:

Aap Jaisa Koi

Starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh, and directed by Vivek Soni, the film is touted as a romantic drama which sees R Madhavan returning to a genre that made him a household name. As per the makers, the film "brings together two opposites in an endearing tale of love and laughter" with the two characters on a "journey full of unexpected twists, heartfelt moments, and plenty of fun."

Inspector Zende

Chinmay Mandlekar directs Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh in a crime drama set in the 1980s. Said to be inspired by the cases of Madhukar Bapurao Zende, the real-life cop who apprehended Charles Sobhraj twice, Inspector Zende will center on Zende's attempts to nab Jim Sarbh's Sobhraj-inspired character Carl Bhojraj. 

Toaster

Rajkummar Rao and actor-wife Patralekhaa produce this dark comedy which stars Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Abhishek Banerjee, Seema Pahwa, and Archana Puran Singh. The film revolves around Rao as a man who gives someone a toaster as a wedding present, with which he develops a fixation and the ensuing chaos.

“This film tells a quirky, layered story that masterfully blends humor, chaos, and unexpected twists. With a talented cast, including Sanya Malhotra, Abhishekh Bannerjee, Upendra Limaye, Seema Pahwa, Jitendra Joshi, and Archana Puran Singh the narrative navigates a complex web of secrets, and surprises — all centered around a seemingly ordinary toaster,” shared the team.
