Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh released in cinemas on April 18, 2025. Starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan, the historical drama has completed its five days of theatrical run today. Karan Singh Tyagi’s directorial had a promising start at the box office, but saw drop in its earnings on its first Monday and Tuesday.
According to Entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, the Akshay Kumar starrer saw rapid growth in the first three days of its release, as it collected Rs 30.21 crore. On Day 4, Monday, it earned approximately Rs 4.50 crore, not even close to the amount collected on Sunday. On Day 5, Tuesday, the film earned Rs 0.32 crore, which is again comparatively less than a day before. Kesari Chapter 2 has reached a total of Rs 34.71 crore, as reported by Sacnilk.
Kesari Chapter 2 is leading in South India with occupancy rate of 72.25% in 47 shows, followed by Hyderabad and Bengaluru. On Tuesday, the film had an overall Hindi occupancy of 9.39%. Despite a drop on Monday and Tuesday, Kesari Chapter 2 became the 7th highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, surpassing the lifetime collections of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency and Sonu Sood’s Fateh. It has entered the list of Top 10 highest Bollywood grossers of 2025.
Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, Kesari 2 is receiving excellent receives from audience and critics alike. Akshay Kumar is being praised for his powerpact performance and dialogue delivery in court. Whereas R Madhavan’s impactful performance in a few scenes in second half and even Ananya Panday’s portrayal has been highly appreciated.
Several Bollywood stars took to social media to praise the film. Vicky Kaushal wrote, “An untold story told with so much grit, sincerity and sensitivity! This is one hell of a directorial debut @karanstyagi.” Katrina Kaif shared, “Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday were just terrific. Congrats Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective and Karan Johar.”
Set against the backdrop of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Kesari Chapter 2 is giving tough fight to Sunny Deol’s Jaat with its holdover release. The courtroom drama will face its new competition from May onwards. For the unversed, the Ajay Devgn starrer Raid 2 will be releasing on May 1.
