On Cam: 'Chaotic' Helicopter Landing At Farmers’ Festival In Nizamabad Triggers Panic; Minor Injuries Reported

A routine helicopter landing at a farmers’ event in Nizamabad took an unexpected turn on Monday, sparking chaos and minor injuries among attendees, including farmers and security personnel. The incident occurred as a helicopter carrying Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy arrived for the Rythu Mahotsavam event, as reported by India Today. Though a helipad had been designated nearby, the chopper instead landed on a college ground adjacent to the venue, triggering a sudden dust storm and strong gusts of wind.

Debris Cause Panic Among Farmers

The force from the landing caused temporary structures—including tents and a welcome arch—to collapse, catching both the crowd and police officers by surprise. Nearly 150 stalls set up for the event were also affected as dust and debris scattered across the area. Attendees were seen scrambling for cover as the situation unfolded, reported Telangana Today.

Videos from the scene show the moment the helicopter descended, sending thick clouds of dust billowing into the air and momentarily reducing visibility. While several people sustained minor injuries in the commotion, officials confirmed that there were no major casualties. All three ministers were reported safe.

Police sources confirmed that a few personnel suffered light injuries while helping to control the situation and direct the crowd to safety.

This marks the second such incident in recent days involving helicopter-related mishaps during ministerial visits. Just last week in Nagar Kurnool, a chopper carrying Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy sparked concern when dry grass near the helipad caught fire moments before landing. Emergency crews managed to extinguish the flames in time, ensuring a safe arrival.

Authorities are reviewing both incidents to reinforce safety protocols around helicopter landings at public events, particularly in open and rural settings.
