Why US Army is scrapping its 'combat' fitness test and introducing tougher standards for frontline troops
The US Army is set to introduce the Army Fitness Test (AFT) in June 2025, replacing the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT). The AFT eliminates the standing power throw and introduces age-normed, sex-neutral standards for 21 combat military occupational specialties. These soldiers must achieve minimum scores, aiming to enhance fitness, warfighting readiness, and lethality.
