Shubhangi Atre’s Ex-Husband Piyush Poorey Passes Away Two Months After Divorce

Actor Shubhangi Atre's ex-husband, Piyush Poorey, passed away on Saturday after a prolonged battle with liver cirrhosis, according to a report by the Times of India. Piyush, who worked as a digital marketing professional, had been fighting the illness for some time.

As per the report, Shubhangi said, “Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this.”

A source close to the actress revealed that Shubhangi and Piyush were not in contact at the time of his passing.

Shubhangi Atre and Piyush Poorey got married in 2003 and officially finalised their divorce on February 5 this year. The couple had been living separately since 2022, marking the end of their 19-year-long marriage. They share a daughter named Ashi, who was born in 2005. Shubhangi had previously shared that she had considered not going through with the divorce for the sake of their daughter, but ultimately decided to proceed.

In a previous interview with Bombay Times, Shubhangi had spoken candidly about the breakdown of her marriage. “It was painful. I was fully invested in the relationship. Over time, Piyush and I developed irreconcilable differences," she had shared.

The actress added, “However, now that I’m out of that marriage, I feel a sense of peace, as if a heavy burden has been lifted. I want to focus on my daughter and provide her with a happy and secure environment."
