Campus notes: Biotech Students Visit IIT

An educational visit was conducted by the students and faculty of the Department of Biotechnology, DAV College, under the DBT Star College Scheme to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to explore the laboratories and examine the advanced instruments that are pivotal to modern biotechnological research. The hands-on experience provided invaluable insights into the practical applications of biotechnology. Faculty members of the institute guided the group through various lab setups such as biomedical sciences labs, chemical engineering labs and demonstrated how the sophisticated equipment is utilised in cutting-edge research. During the visit, faculty members and lab experts provided detailed demonstrations on the working principles and applications of various instruments, including spectrophotometers, centrifuges, NMR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Mass Spectrophotometer, distillation unit, gas chromatography and many more. The students were accompanied by Dr Sanjay Sharma, DBT Coordinator and Prof Sakshi.

Rally against Drug Abuse

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell and Red Ribbon Club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, organised an anti-drugs awareness rally in Dhaliwal village under the guidance of Principal Prof Ajay Sareen. The event aimed to inform and raise awareness among people of the village about the dangers of drug abuse, its effects on individuals and society and the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Dr Minakshi Duggal Mehta, Incharge Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Dr Deepali, Incharge, Red Ribbon Club, addressed the villagers and explained the harmful effects of consuming drugs not only for a person but for the entire community. They urged the young individuals to stay away from such harmful substances. The students participated enthusiastically in the rally and spread the message through various posters and charts of ‘Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life’. The initiative was widely praised by local residents. The event ended with a vote of thanks to Mandeep Singh, sarpanch of the village and Dr Anjana Bhatia, Member, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, for their cooperation and support. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of team members and encouraged to organise more such events in future also.

Exposure visit to Food Industry

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Health organised an industrial visit to BDM Food Industry, Gagret, Una, Himachal Pradesh, as a part of their academic enrichment and hands-on learning experience. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of food processing and nutrition. During the visit, students were given an in-depth orientation about various stages of food production, packaging, quality control and safety standards followed by the industry. Experts at BDM also briefed students on the use of modern technology in food processing and how nutritional values are maintained in mass production. The interaction proved to be highly insightful, allowing students to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications. Students also had the opportunity to engage with professionals working in the industry, gaining exposure to career prospects and future opportunities in the food and nutrition sector. Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the department for organising the visit and encouraged more such initiatives that promote experiential learning and equipping the future nutritionists with practical knowledge of food production and safety. The students were accompanied by Tarandeep Kaur and Shivani Bagga, Department of Nutrition.

Commerce Students Excel

Students of Lyallpur Khalsa College have performed well in Guru Nanak Dev University examination of B Com. Principal of the college Dr Suman Chopra informed that Suryansh Sharma secured second position in the university in B Com-V semester by getting 277 marks out of 350 whereas Mantripat Kaur bagged 4th position by getting 273 marks in the same class. President of the College Governing Council Balbir Kaur congratulated the students and wished them success in life. Vice-Principal Prof Navdeep Kaur and Head PG Department of Commerce Dr Rashpal Singh Sandhu were also present on this occasion.
