Missing Puri boy found dead in septic tank; one detained

Death

Puri: The body of an 11-year-old boy, Ashirbad Sahu, who had been missing for the past few days in Puri’s Delang area, was recovered late Sunday night, a source said.

The body was recovered in a septic tank close to his residence in Ratanpur village. It was in a partially mutilated state, with certain body parts found severed, the source added.

A suspect named Prabhakar Sahu was detained by the police for questioning. He had previously been detained but was let go due to insufficient evidence, the source said.

A local resident claimed that the suspect was not directly related to the deceased child but had been living near the victim’s house. The boy had been playing cricket and was last seen speaking with him.

Following the recovery of the body, an irate crowd reportedly gathered at the suspect’s residence and vandalised his property in protest. Tensions in the area remain high, and police have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Police have yet to release an official statement.
