Water Bill: There is good news for Delhiites. The government can give up to 100 percent relief from the late payment surcharge on pending water bills along with the penalty imposed on it. According to sources, the government has currently sought information from the Jal Board regarding LPSC (Late Payment Surcharge). How many such consumers are there who have not paid their water bills for a long time?
Let us tell you that, currently there are 28 lakh 99 thousand 615 water connections in Delhi. This includes both domestic and commercial connections. There are 18.54 lakh consumers who are taking advantage of the 20 thousand liters of free water scheme per month. This means that their water bill is zero. Out of the remaining 11 lakh consumers, 4.22 lakh have not paid their water bill even once in the last one year. Due to this, their bill has reached lakhs due to the late payment surcharge imposed on it.
According to sources, the government is considering a plan to give up to 100 percent discount on late payment surcharge and penalty amount on pending water bills. This will provide great relief to the people. Apart from this, relief of up to 50 percent can be given on the basic bill in some categories between property category A to H.
This is why the number has increased: The reason for non-payment of water bills in large numbers is being attributed to the one-time settlement scheme in the previous government. The previous government had assured the people that it would waive off the water bills by bringing a one-time settlement scheme. The government itself had accepted that wrong water bills were being sent. After this, the number of people not paying the bills kept increasing.
