Nishikant Dubey now targets ex-CEC S.Y. Quraishi, says he was a ‘Muslim commissioner’

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey seems unperturbed by the criticisms and political uproars over his vitriolic remarks. A day after he targeted the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India, the Godda MP on Sunday trained his guns at former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi over the latter’s comments on the Waqf Amendment Act.

Dubey threw a religious barb at Quraishi, saying the former CEC was not an election commissioner but a "Muslim commissioner". What apparently provoked the BJP leader was Quraishi’s post on X, in which he said the amended Waqf Act was a "sinister and evil plan of the government to grab Muslim lands".

"You were not an election commissioner; you were a Muslim commissioner. The maximum number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were made voters in Santhal Pargana in Jharkhand during your tenure,” Dubey said.

He went on to say that all the Waqf lands belonged to Hindus, tribals, Jains or Buddhists before Islam came to India.

The MP further alleged that the Vikramshila University, which gave the world its "first vice chancellor" in Atish Dipankar, was burnt down by Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1189.

"Unite this country; read history. Pakistan was created by dividing it. There will be no partition now,” said.

Quraishi, in his post on April 17, had come down heavily on the Waqf Amendment Act and also slammed the “misinformation propaganda” behind the new law.

"Wakf Act is undoubtedly a blatantly sinister evil plan of the govt to grab Muslim lands. I'm sure SC will call it out. Misinformation by the mischievous propaganda machine has done its job well,” he wrote on X.

Dubey’s response to Quraishi came a day after the BJP MP triggered a political storm, saying the parliament and state legislatures must be shut down if the Supreme Court starts making laws.

He also went on to hold Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna for “all civil wars” in the country.
