Washington: A sea of protesters gathered in different cities across the United States, including New York and Washington, and held massive rallies again on Saturday (local time) against US President Donald Trump’s policies. Nearly two weeks after the first wave of massive protests, demonstrators returned to the streets to express their anguish over Trump’s policies, The New York Times reported.
However, less protesters gathered in major cities like New York, Washington, and Chicago compared to the demonstrations held on April 5. One of the organisers told the NYT that over 700 were planned across the nation. Protesters accused the US President of trampling civil liberties and the rule of law. They also expressed concerns over immigration, federal job cuts, economic policies, and other issues.
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the White House and chanted “shame!” to voice their dissatisfaction with the Trump administration.
Thousands more marched from the Washington Monument, many demanding that the administration bring back Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia — a Maryland man wrongfully deported to El Salvador, The New York Times reported.
“I am worried that the administration would not stop at deporting undocumented immigrants without due process and would imprison and deport U.S. citizens,” said Aaron Burk, who joined the rally in Washington. He added, “Where does it stop?” he said. Burk also said that his daughter is transgender and that he was most concerned about the dehumanisation of minorities, The New York Times reported.
A large demonstration in Jacksonville, Florida, saw hundreds protesting against the president’s anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act.
Demonstrator Sara Harvey expressed concern about the impact of federal job cuts, attributed to Elon Musk, stating that she had participated in recent protests, including a nationwide demonstration on April 5th. She believes these actions are detrimental to the nation.
