Muslim assn stages protest over Waqf Bill

Members of the local Muslim community under the leadership of Sarwar Ghulam Shaba, leader of the Rahstriya Alpsankhyak Arakshan Morcha (Punjab unit), organised a protest march from Naiyaan Wala Chowk to the rest house in Phagwara to protest against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.

Later, activists of the morcha burnt an effigy of the BJP-led Central Government outside the rest house.

Shaba alleged that the Waqf Act was unconstitutional and the BJP-led Central Government had intentions to take possession of the Waqf properties all over the country. He further demanded that the Waqf Amendment Act should be cancelled and no implementation of any provision of the Waqf Act should be done till the final orders of the Supreme Court over the matter.

Later, a memorandum was submitted to the BDPO, Phagwara, addressed to the President of India, demanding cancellation of the Act.
