Manipur girl dies after jumping off terrace in Delhi

A 20-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide after jumping off the terrace of her building in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight colony area, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Priyaluxmi Devi Khangebam, a native of Manipur. She was working at a BPO company in Noida.

Sharing details, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh said they received a PCR call at the Sunlight Colony police station reporting a dead body near Maharani Park, close to Gupta Store.

“Priyaluxmi had been residing in Delhi since October 2024. She was living on the third floor of a residential building in Kilokari along with her roommate, Marina. Both worked at a BPO company in Noida,” the DCP said.

He said the victim woman’s roommate confirmed her employment and residence details.

“The CCTV footage from the roof of the building showed her walking alone and jumping off, indicating a case of suicide. The footage has been secured for further investigation,” the officer said.

A forensic team of the Delhi Police checked their flat and found a suicide note in the mobile phone of the deceased.

“It revealed her deep emotional distress, self-doubt, and mental exhaustion. She expressed feelings of failure, isolation and lack of purpose,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the police have informed the family members of the deceased. The body has been kept at the AIIMS mortuary. The postmortem examination will be conducted in the presence of the family members, the officer added.
