Chandigarh doctor among two booked for gangraping minor
The police have booked a Chandigarh-based doctor and a trader for allegedly gangraping a minor on multiple occasions over a two-year period.
A zero FIR was lodged against the accused, Gurcharan Singh, a dentist residing in Sector 19 and Kasturi Lal, a resident of Mullanpur, at the Sector 19 police station and later transferred to the Mohali police for further investigation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek said, “A zero FIR has been forwarded by the Chandigarh Police. The case will be verified and further action taken accordingly.”
The matter first came to light when Gurcharan approached the Sector 19 police over threat and extortion calls demanding Rs 5 lakhs from him.
Upon verification, cops traced the phone number to an acquaintance of the minor, now 19-years-old, who was impersonating a lawyer to extort the money. The girl used to work in the vicinity of the garment shop owned by Kasturi Lal.
In her complaint, the girl told the police that she was raped for two years at a house in Mullanpur as well as hotels in Nayagaon.
The investigators have also registered another case related to extortion on the complaint of the dentist against the girl’s acquaintance.
The police said the dentist claimed that he paid Rs 21 lakh after receving calls demanding the money, but the girl’s family have denied having made any such calls.
