Men misbehaving with Muslim woman in viral video from Muzaffarnagar are not Hindu
Recently, a video showing a group of 10-12 youths surrounding a Muslim woman wearing a burqa went viral on social media. Several persons in the crowd have mobile phones in their hands with the camera on. The woman tries to free himself from the crowd when a middle-aged man in a white kurta pajama is seen pulling her hijab from behind. Users claim that the incident is from Muzaffarnagar where Hindu youths removed a Muslim woman’s burqa and tried to remove her clothes by pulling her hair.

Fact Check
A keyword search using relevant terms from the viral claims led us to several news reports related to this incident. According to a Dainik Bhaskar report published on April 14, 2025, the woman worked at a finance company. She was returning after collecting money from a place with another employee of the firm named Sachin, when a group of around 10 men stopped them and attacked them in Darji Gali of Khalapar in Muzaffarnagar. The men forcibly tried to remove the woman’s burqa and also slapped her.
The same details were also mentioned in a report by Navbharat Times. This article further stated that locals somehow rescued both of them and took them away. The woman went to the police station with female police officers and lodged a complaint, after which on the basis of the video, the police identified the accused and arrested six. They were identified as Sartaj, Shadab, Umar, Arsh, Shoaib and Shami.
Upon further investigation, we also came across an official statement of Muzaffarnagar Police on X (formerly Twitter). Confirming the incident, they said that on April 12, a group of people misbehaved and beat up two employees of Utkarsh Small Finance Bank in Khalapar police station area, after which police registered a case under relevant sections and arrested the six accused. To sum up, the victim and the accused who misbehaved with the woman are all Muslims. However, the incident was falsely shared with communal claims.
