Weather Update: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms and heavy rains for the next seven days at different places in 20 states and union territories from Jammu and Kashmir to Odisha and all the states of the Northeast of eastern India and Kerala. Lightning may also strike at some places. During the last 24 hours, strong winds blew and light to heavy rainfall was recorded at different places in all the states of the Northeast including West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. A person working in the field died due to lightning in Puri, Odisha.

Along with Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad also witnessed rain with thunder

According to the Meteorological Department, dark clouds suddenly covered the sky in the evening in Delhi-NCR and it rained heavily with strong winds. Noida and Ghaziabad including Burari, Rohini, Badli, Punjabi Bagh, Shahdara, Vivek Vihar, Patel Nagar, ITO and Rajiv Chowk also witnessed rain with thunder. The speed of vehicles on the roads slowed down. However, due to the holiday, there was not much crowd on the roads. However, the sudden change in the weather has given relief to the people from the heat.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of thunderstorms and dust storms on Saturday. Delhi-NCR will remain partly cloudy during the day, which will become darker by evening. During this time, light rain or drizzle and dust storms are expected with thunder. Winds are likely to blow at a speed of 60 km per hour. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius and 25 to 27 degrees Celsius respectively. After the rain on Friday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 33 degrees Celsius late at night. Earlier, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at 25.6 degrees Celsius.

Airport issued advisory

In view of the bad weather, Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has issued an advisory advising passengers to find out about the flight status before leaving home. Flights are likely to be delayed due to bad weather. Air traffic flow management measures have been implemented to prevent delays.
