Seven Injured As Fireworks Wreak Havoc At Kottayam Temple Festival
Seven people suffered injuries after a celebration night turned chaotic due to a firework accident during Perumkulangara temple celebrations. The incident occurred around 9:45 PM on Friday, during the final phase of the fireworks display.
According to eyewitnesses, flames unexpectedly erupted from the fire pit and quickly spread to nearby stocks of fireworks, including gunpowder and Chinese crackers stored for the festivities. The sudden blaze triggered a minor explosion, causing debris to fly and a metal piece from a nearby building to fall on attendees.
The injured were rushed to Palakkad District Hospital. The condition of all the patients are said to be stable and none of the injuries have been reported as serious. Most of those hurt received primary treatment and were discharged shortly afterward.
Local authorities have launched an investigation, and a case has been registered at the Kottayi Police Station. Preliminary reports suggest lapses in safety measures around the firework storage area may have contributed to the incident.
The temple festival, a significant event for local devotees, was abruptly halted following the accident.
