Preetika Rao and Harshad Arora’s Beintehaa Controversy Turns Ugly After Viral Fan Edit Row

TV actors Preetika Rao and Harshad Arora have been in the news for quite some time now. It all began with a recent Instagram post when Preetika expressed frustration over fan-made romantic video edits of her and Harshad Arora from their 2014 TV show Beintehaa. Preetika allegedly responded to one such fan video, which has since gone viral on social media.

Preetika reacted by criticising the edits and the creators for continuing to make them years after the show had ended. She wrote,
"Shame on you! For putting these videos on your page when I have repeatedly requested you not to post my videos with a man who sleeps with every woman he finds in the industry!"

Preetika's statement

While Preetika did not further comment, her team issued a clarification. Quoted by Hindustan Times, a representative from her team said,
"Ma'am is in Bangalore for a retreat with her family. We are unable to reach her at this moment. She doesn’t even know about all this."

They further added, "Her account is handled by one of the team members who got into a big argument with the ZaYa fan club. It’s the girl’s fault, as she wrote all that and not Preetika ma'am. She has long since left acting and is now focusing on her channel and spiritual podcast. She has no clue about any statement the social media person made against Harshad sir."

Harshad Arora's statement

Meanwhile, Harshad reacted to the controversy during an interaction with Hindustan Times. He commented,"If you can post something about someone, then take ownership of it too. If this is her way of getting mileage by saying whatever she wants, then it’s up to her."

Responding to her team’s statement, Harshad added, "How can they just put the blame on someone? Nothing goes out on my social media without my approval, and the same should be true for others. I even received messages from someone claiming to be from her team, apologising for the messages sent out. It’s like making someone a scapegoat to cover up for yourself."

He went on to say, "If I wanted, I could have served her with a defamation notice for what she said. But honestly, I don’t have the time or the bandwidth. I discussed it with a lawyer friend who explained to me that I have grounds to sue her for her claims, but I’m currently shooting and barely have time. She, on the other hand, has free time and is channelling her so-called spiritual energy into all this."

Harshad also questioned why such a statement would be made 12 years after the show ended.

"I moved on from the show 12 years ago; why would anyone suddenly make a statement like this out of nowhere just to gain mileage? It’s very disrespectful. Whatever she said is unacceptable to me and to all the co-stars I’ve worked with. They too have every right to take legal action if they wish."

He concluded, "Why exactly after 12 years? Do you really want this kind of controversy to be your only relevance in the industry? Everybody knows the intention behind this kind of move. Nobody’s naïve enough to buy into this now."
