Sports, culture & community spirit shine at Padhar farmer fair

The ongoing district-level farmer fair at Padhar came alive on its second day with a spirited showcase of sporting talent and cultural vibrancy. A wide array of competitions drew enthusiastic participation from across the region, highlighting the fair’s growing importance as a platform for both athletic and artistic expression.

In the men’s kabaddi open tournament, Vivek Academy triumphed in the opening match, defeating Seven Brothers, who finished as runners-up. With six teams in the fray, the tournament served up a thrilling display of strength and strategy.

Krishn Bhoj, vice-president of the panchayat committee, presided over the event as chief guest and presented a cash prize of Rs 3,100 to the winning team as a token of encouragement and appreciation.

On the volleyball court, the team from CM Kotli outperformed Government Senior Secondary School, Padhar, securing a win in the first match of the volleyball open tournament, which featured eight competing teams. The turnout underscored the sport’s rising popularity in the region.

In the open badminton match, Anshul edged out Purusharth in a tightly contested game. With 12 teams participating in the badminton tournament, more exciting matchups are expected in the coming days.

Adding to the festive spirit, a series of women’s events brought cheers and celebration. From the spirited matka phod to the energetic tug of war and the ever-popular musical chair, the atmosphere was electric.

Of 27 mahila mandals that took part, Rajkumari from Jagriti Mahila Mandal emerged victorious in the matka phod contest, delighting spectators as she broke the pot amid enthusiastic applause.
