Maharshi Dayanand varsity to celebrate 50th foundation day
Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, will mark its 50th foundation day on Saturday with a grand celebration. The event will be graced by Haryana Governor and MDU Chancellor Bandaru Dattatraya as the chief guest, while Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda will attend as the guest of honour.
The day’s celebrations will begin with a havan ceremony, followed by the inauguration of a new faculty cafeteria and an exhibition at the Tagore Auditorium.
MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh shared that the university was founded in 1975 as a residential institution focused on interdisciplinary education and research in life sciences, environment, and social reform. Over the last 50 years, MDU has expanded into an affiliating-cum-teaching university, now boasting 42 teaching departments, 10 faculties, and academic jurisdiction over eight districts in Haryana.
The university holds an A-plus grade accreditation from the NAAC, with a CGPA of 3.44. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, MDU is ranked 35th among state public universities and is recognised as the top university in Haryana.
As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, MDU will unveil its Golden Jubilee logo/insignia, release a jubilee calendar, publish a souvenir and launch the first edition of its quarterly newsletter. Additionally, a dedicated alumni website will be launched.
The university will also honour academic and administrative excellence with research awards, as well as recognise faculty members, non-teaching staff and university toppers. Meritorious students, as well as NSS and Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers, will also be felicitated for their contributions to social service.
