4 delivery boys among 7 held for Zirakpur robbery

The police have arrested seven suspects for the gunpoint robbery at a jeweller’s shop at Bhabat in Zirakpur.

Those arrested have been identified as Barnala resident Gurmandeep Singh, Lakhimpur Kheri (UP) native Germanjit Singh, Rishabh of Fatehabad, Adampur resident Paramveer Singh, Sirsa native Shamsher Singh, alias Shera; Gagandeep Singh of Mohali, and Ajnala native Karanvir Singh. The police have recovered the stolen silver ornaments, one pistol with a round and two motorcycles used in the crime.

The police produced the suspects in the court and procured their three-day remand.

Employed as delivery boys with a quick-commerce service firm, Paramveer, Shamsher, Gagandeep and Karanvir had carried out the robbery in a planned way, the police said. The other three were involved in the conspiracy.

Zirakpur SHO Jaskanwal Singh Shekhon said, “The suspects will be subjected to dope test tomorrow. Two of them were injured while the police tried to nab them. Paramveer has a rioting case pending against him.”

Four bike-borne youths had robbed Sorav Kumar of “Guddu di Hatti” of Rs 80,000 cash and silver ornaments at gunpoint in Shiva Enclave, Victoria City, Bhabat, in Zirakpur around 3:15 pm on Wednesday.
