'Those Who Sell Votes Will Be Reborn As Dogs, Cats': MP BJP MLA Usha Thakur Warns Voters In Viral Video
BJP MLA and former Madhya Pradesh Minister Usha Thakur launched an attack on those voting based on money, liquor, and gifts, asserting that those who sell democracy will be reborn as sheep, camels, goats, dogs, and cats.
Her remarks were made at a meeting in Hasalpur village in her Mhow assembly constituency on Wednesday, and were captured and surfaced on social media. In response, the opposition party condemned the MLA for her “conservative thoughts.”
“Thousands of rupees come into the accounts of every beneficiary through so many schemes of the BJP government, like Ladli Behna Yojana and Kisan Samman Nidhi. Even after that, if votes are sold for 1,000-500 (rupees), then it is a matter of shame for humans,” she said in the viral video.
Referring to the confidentiality of the vote, Thakur said that even if no one else sees it, "God is watching," and urged people not to compromise their integrity while voting.
“Those who became neutral after taking money, saree, glass, and liquor, write it down in your diary that they are definitely going to become camels, sheep, goats, dogs and cats in the next birth. Those who will sell democracy are going to become these only. Write this down. I have a direct conversation with God, believe me,” she said.
Known for making controversial remarks in the past, Thakur claimed that people should vote only for the BJP, which, according to her, upholds the values of the nation, religion, and culture.
Madhya Pradesh Minister Defends Her Remark
When questioned about her comments, Thakur stated that she intended to raise awareness among voters in rural areas. “Democracy is our life. The government runs many schemes to improve the lives of people as per the provisions of the Constitution. It serves the public all 12 months of the year. In such a situation, if a person sells his vote for money, liquor or other material in any situation during elections, then it is an unpardonable crime,” the MLA said, news agency PTI reported.
While defending her remarks, she stated that people get the next life based on their deeds, and if the deeds are bad, then people will not be reborn as humans.
Meanwhile, MP Congress spokesperson Mrinal Pant criticised her remarks, saying they reflect not only her "regressive mindset" but also highlight internal conflicts within BJP leaders in Mhow.
