New Delhi. The time to file Income Tax Return (ITR) is about to come now. The Income Tax Department is soon going to notify online ITR forms for Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26. As soon as the department does this, the process of ITR filing will formally start. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is likely to notify ITR forms and start the e-filing portal in this month itself i.e. April 2025. The last date for filing ITR returns will be July 31, 2025. Last year also the e-filing portal was opened in April itself. After filing the return, now the refund is received within 7 to 20 days.

However, most salaried people start filing ITR only in late May or June. The reason for this is that companies give Form 16 to employees only after May. This form contains details of the total salary and tax deduction (TDS) of the year. The information recorded in it is very useful for filing the correct return. According to the rules, it is mandatory for employers i.e. companies and government departments to issue Form 16 by June 15.

Refund process has become faster

The Income Tax Department has made the refund process much faster. Now usually the refund is transferred to the taxpayers’ account within 7 to 20 days of filing the ITR. To get a quick refund, it is necessary to verify the ITR on time and there should be no deficiency in the return. Experts say that taxpayers who file ITR before the deadline of July 31 are more likely to get a refund quickly.

Pre-filled ITR forms

Apart from this, the facility of pre-filled ITR forms is also made available on the portal, which is especially beneficial for salaried and small taxpayers. However, before submitting the ITR form, it is necessary to thoroughly check the information given in it.
