Army Orders Inquiry Into ‘Manhandling’ During Rajouri Anti-Terror Ops, Promises ‘Strict Action’
The Indian Army on Friday announced that an internal inquiry has been initiated following allegations of manhandling by Army personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. According to a statement issued by the Defence PRO, Jammu, the incident occurred during a routine search operation that was launched based on intelligence inputs regarding the suspected movement of terrorists in the area.
Preliminary findings suggest that an individual allegedly attempted to snatch a weapon from a soldier and engaged in a scuffle after being stopped at a checkpoint, news agency ANI reported.
“An incident has come to light wherein certain individuals were allegedly manhandled by Army personnel in Rajouri District (J-K). The Army had input on the likely movement of terrorists in a vehicle in this sensitive area. Accordingly, search operations were being conducted,” the Army said in a statement, as per ANI.
It further noted, “Preliminary information suggests that on being stopped, the individual tried to snatch the weapon from the soldiers on duty and initiated a scuffle with them. However, an enquiry has been initiated. Should any personnel be found guilty of misconduct, strict action will be taken in accordance with the existing law.”
Jammu-Kashmir: Anti-Terror Ops Continue in Poonch
Meanwhile, joint operations by the Romeo Force of the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) entered their fourth consecutive day in the forested region of Lasana in Poonch district. The operation began on Tuesday following an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces on Monday night.
Security personnel have cordoned off the area and are conducting thorough search operations in the dense forest zones. Officials confirmed that during the encounter, terrorists opened fire on Romeo Force personnel, injuring one security official near Lasana village on the National Highway connecting Poonch to Jammu.
Earlier on Saturday, the Indian Army reiterated its commitment to continue counter-terror operations across the union territories, stating that efforts would persist until “terrorists are eliminated.”
