Kesari Chapter 2 Review: In 2019, Akshay Kumar starred in a movie titled Kesari which was based on the Battle Of Saragarhi. Now, after six years, the actor has starred in a film titled Kesari Chapter 2. Both films have no connection apart from Akshay playing the lead role and Karan Johar producing them. The trailer of Kesari 2 had promised that the film will be an interesting courtroom drama based on a real-life incident that took place in 1919. Well, the Karan Singh Tyagi directorial offers us what the trailer actually promised. Read on to know more...

The movie starts with the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, Punjab. Soon, we are introduced to Sankaran Nair (Akshay Kumar) who is a lawyer and works for the British Empire. He is a part of the Viceroy's Council and becomes a part of the investigation, where he comes to know what actually happened in Jallianwala Bagh. An incident changes his heart, and the lawyer who was working for British Empire turns against them and fights for justice. How he does that? What all hurdles he have to face? Forms the rest of the story...

Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the book, The Case That Shook The Empire, by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The movie is written by Karan Singh Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra, and marks the directorial debut of Tyagi. You might have seen a video in which Akshay is requesting the audience not to miss the first 10 minutes of the film, and well, he is absolutely right. DON'T MISS THE BEGINNING AT ALL!

The movie starts on an emotional note and showcases what happened at Jallianwala Bagh. Those scenes will surely get tears in your eyes. We have read about the incident in textbooks, but the first half of Kesari Chapter 2 showcases what happened after the massacre and how the British Empire was trying to save General Reginald Dyer. The courtroom drama starts in the first half itself, and whenever Akshay enters the court, we know that we are in for a treat. The pace in the first half is a bit slow, but Tyagi has smartly got some dramatic scenes in between to keep up the momentum.

Kesari Chapter 2 gets much better in the second half. It is filled with amazing courtroom and investigation scenes that will keep you hooked. The film's runtime is only 2 hours 15 minutes, and even in such a short time, Tyagi has wonderfully shown every detail. The climax, of course, takes the movie a notch higher, and for that, even Akshay Kumar deserves applause. It will surely give you goosebumps.

Kesari Chapter 2 Review - Actors' Performances

Akshay Kumar as Sankaran Nair has nailed it. He is amazing in the film, once again proving his mettle as an actor. When he enters the court, he also carries the superstar aura, and that's what we love about the film. Even though this is a pure performance-oriented role, Tyagi has not forgotten that he has to present Akki as a star as well. R Madhavan as Advocate Neville McKinley, who is pitted against Nair in the court, is very good in his role. The courtroom sequences between him and Akshay are one of the highlights of the film.

While Akshay and Madhavan impress, it is Ananya who surprises. This film is a slap to everyone who thought she couldn't act. There are some powerful scenes in the movie, and the actress has done them effortlessly. In her contemporaries, it is Ananya who has surely shown a fantastic improvement in her performance.

Other actors, such as Regina Cassandra (Nair's wife), Simon Paisley Day (General Reginald Dyer), Amit Sial, and Krish Rao, leave a strong impression with their performances.

Kesari Chapter 2 Review - Music

It is a film where we don't expect some charbuster dance numbers, and the music of Kesari Chapter 2 is just perfect for the film's theme. O Shera is very effective in the narration.

Kesari Chapter 2 Review - Final Verdict

Overall, Kesari Chapter 2 gets history on the big screens in an engaging and entertaining manner. So, yes, you should watch this Akshay Kumar starrer in a theatre near or far away from you!
