Madhya Pradesh: Scheme To Provide Farmers With Meal At ₹ 5 Shelved In Chhatarpur
Harpalpur (Chhatarpur): The government scheme to provide meals to farmers at Rs 5 is on the shelf in Harpalpur Krishi Upaj Mandi. Potable water, a place for rest and a proper facility for weighing crops are not available to farmers.
The farmers are facing many problems. Mandi secretary Santosh Nagar said tenders were floated for running the canteen for farmers, but the contractors barely showed any interest in it. As a result, the scheme to provide food for Rs 5 is out of operation.
Farmers have to move here and there for food. There is only one hand pump in the Mandi. It is unable to provide water to the farmers. Nagar said some pitchers had been kept to give water to the farmers. There are many irregularities during the bidding of crops.
The traders throw crops on the floor of the Mandi on the pretext of checking them. Afterwards, women come and collect the crops lying on the floor. They have had altercations with the farmers several times.
According to Nagar, Mandi management has deployed employees to provide water to farmers. The officials are also talking to the contractors to run the canteen, he said.
