Jail inmate escapes from police custody
An undertrial prisoner managed to escape from police custody on Wednesday while being transported from Burail jail to the Mohali district court for a hearing.
The murder accused, identified as Rintu, a resident of Phase 1, Ram Darbar, was brought to the court premises under police escort. However, during the court proceedings Rintu managed to evade the security personnel and managed to flee from the location. Sources reveal that Rintu was lodged in Burail jail in connection with a murder case.
As per the statement recorded at Sohana police station, Head Constable Daljeet Singh of Chandigarh Police said that he and ASI Naresh Kumar were escorting undertrial Rintu from Burail jail in a government bus. While the bus driver and other officers went to Kharar court with another accused, Daljeet and Naresh accompanied Rintu to the Mohali court.
Around 1.15 pm, when the officers were waiting for the bus outside the court complex, Rintu suddenly pulled his hand free from Daljeet’s grip, shoved him away, and jumped into a nearby dry canal and vanished into the bushes.
