Natasha Lyonne returns to solve crime in 'Poker Face' Season 2, from 'Knives Out' director Rian Johnson

Streaming platform Peacock has released the first trailer for the new season of Poker Face, created by filmmaker Rian Johnson and actress Natasha Lyonne. Johnson, known for the films Brick, Knives Out (and its sequels), Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is back in a directing capacity as well, as he did in the first season which followed the pattern of some old mystery shows where its central character took on a different case in each episode. Season 2 will premiere on May 8 with three episodes.

Lyonne, who plays Charlie Cale, a woman on the run from the aftermath of a previous case while encountering new ones on her road trip, which she undertakes in her Plymouth Barracuda, has also written, directed and executive produced the show, indicating a hands-on creative involvement as with the previous season.

In a statement, the duo recalled being influenced by "70s American cinema" and mentioned films like Robert Altman, Bob Rafelson, and Peter Bogdanovich. "But the backbone of this show is TV — the kind of TV we grew up watching... Each episode is a mini movie, existing in its own world with a unique tone and vibe, featuring an eccentric lot of characters played by a truly gonzo parade of guest stars."

Like the first season which saw movie actors like Adrien Brody making an appearance, the second season will also feature appearances from big names like Cynthia Erivo, Katie Holmes, John Mulaney, and Awkwafina, among others.

The full list includes Adrienne C. Moore, Alia Shawkat, Ben Marshall, B.J. Novak, Carol Kane, Cliff "Method Man" Smith, Corey Hawkins, David Alan Grier, David Krumholtz, Davionte "GaTa" Ganter, Ego Nwodim, Gaby Hoffmann, Geraldine Viswanathan, Giancarlo Esposito, Haley Joel Osment, Jason Ritter, and Justin Theroux.

The first season of Poker Face is streaming on JioHotstar, and the platform is expected to feature the second season as well.

Lyonne is also known for the Netflix sci-fi/comedy series Russian Doll, which ran for two seasons, and most recently in the critically acclaimed independent film His Three Daughters, which co-starred Carrie Coon and Elizabeth Olsen.
