IMD Weather Updates 17 April: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning in many parts of western India. This includes many areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat. There will be no heatwave here till 22 April, but the temperature can reach 41 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was recorded at 39.1 degrees Celsius, which is 2.3 degrees above normal. On Thursday, the temperature may reach 40 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 25 degrees Celsius. Between April 17 and 22, the maximum temperature in Delhi will be between 38°C to 41°C and the minimum temperature will be between 23°C to 27°C. During this period, south-eastern, western, south-western and north-western winds will blow. According to the regional forecasting center of the IMD, there is no possibility of heat wave or hot nights in Delhi till April 22.
Heatwave wreaks havoc in Rajasthan and Gujarat
The weather department says that heatwave and severe heatwave are likely in many parts of West Rajasthan till April 18, while heatwave is likely in some areas on April 19. Heatwave may persist in some places in East Rajasthan till April 19. Heatwave is likely in Gujarat on April 17. While western India is battling heat, light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of South and Northeast India. According to the Meteorological Department, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Karnataka may receive rain with thunderstorms and strong winds (30-50 km/h) for the next 5 days. Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive widespread rain and strong winds (40-50 km/h) till April 19.
The Meteorological Department says that Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may receive rain with thunderstorms and strong winds till April 18. Heavy rain is expected in Bihar and Tripura on April 17. Assam and Meghalaya may receive heavy rains on April 17 and between April 20 and 22. Heavy rains are forecast in Arunachal Pradesh from April 20 to 22.
The western Himalayan region may witness hailstorms on April 18 and 19 due to the effect of an intense western disturbance till April 20. Heavy rains may also occur in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh. Light rains and thunderstorms are also expected in the plains of North-West India between April 18 and 20.
