Bank Holidays: Are Branches Open Or Closed For Good Friday? Check Here

As Good Friday approaches, many bank customers are wondering whether branches will remain open on April 18, 2025. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), a number of banks across several states, including Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Srinagar, will remain closed on Friday in observance of the Christian religious holiday.

Good Friday, which commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, is observed annually by Christian communities across the world. In India, the day is a gazetted holiday in several regions, prompting banks in those areas to suspend over-the-counter services. While physical bank branches will remain closed on April 18 in the mentioned states, regular banking operations are expected to resume on Saturday, April 19. However, services will once again pause for the nationwide Sunday holiday on April 20.

Despite the closure of branches, customers will still have access to all digital banking channels. Online services such as mobile banking apps, net banking, ATMs, WhatsApp banking, and SMS-based transactions will function as usual, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential financial services.

The RBI categorises bank holidays into three types: those under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays related to Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), and account closing days. Bank holiday observances often vary by region, based on local festivals, state-specific events, or government declarations. Customers are advised to check with their respective banks, particularly private sector institutions, as operating schedules can differ.
