Electricity Meters Rules: With one click of Smart Meters, electricity of defaulters will be cut off. Electricity will be provided after recharging. There will be freedom from problems like pending bills and theft. 74 thousand meters will be installed in Gajraula division. Consumers will avail electricity from the meter in the same way as they avail the benefit of talking or internet service by recharging the mobile. Smart prepaid meter will be directly connected to the mobile of the consumers.

Electricity Meters Rules: Work of installing smart meters is going on by the electricity department. But, this meter will not only provide electricity by recharging but the electricity department will also get rid of many hassles. In some time, the electricity workers will not climb ladders to houses to cut connections. Just by sitting in the office and clicking once, the electricity of the defaulters’ house will be cut off. The entire meter will be switched off. Which will be started after the outstanding bill is deposited.

In fact, till now, meters of bills generated by the electricity department’s readings are installed in people’s houses, shops and tube wells. But, the electricity department has taken the step of replacing these meters and installing smart meters. These smart meters will be recharged and the more they are recharged, the more electricity will be used.

Electricity theft will be curbed

With the installation of this meter, the electricity department will get rid of many problems like pending bills, theft etc. and complaints of consumers like getting high bills or getting high readings even after using less electricity will also end. However, the recharge exercise will continue after some time.

The special thing is that till now, the people of the electricity department go to the houses of the defaulters and climb the ladder to disconnect the connection, but when the smart meters are fully installed, then this task will also be eliminated. Then the electricity department will disconnect the connection using technology, that is, just one click on the computer and the power will go off. The meter will not work.

Pre-paid recharge facility will be implemented after testing

Smart meters are being installed. These have the facility of recharging and bill generation directly from electricity. But, right now these meters do not have the facility of pre-paid i.e. recharge. Currently, the change that has happened between the earlier and these smart meters is that till now the electricity department employee used to go door to door to issue bills, but in the new smart meter, the bill will be generated automatically at the end of the month and it will be deposited through mobile. The hassle of meter reader delivering it to the house will end. After this experiment is completed, the facility of pre-paid recharge will also be implemented in these meters.

74 thousand meters will be installed in Gajraula division, eight thousand have been installed so far

Electricity department officials said that smart meters will be installed at the homes of 74 thousand consumers in Gajraula division. Eight thousand meters have been installed so far. The first start has been made from the government office. The special thing is that consumers will not have to pay any extra amount to get the smart meter installed. The department itself will bear the cost of installing it at the consumers’ home.

By getting recharge done from time to time, electricity consumers will continue to avail electricity like mobile phone service. The recharge amount of the meter will start from Rs 50. Consumers will be able to recharge for Rs 500, Rs 1000 or more as per their convenience. Online recharge can be done by visiting the department’s website through mobile sitting at home.

Smart meters are being installed. These have all the facilities. But, right now neither the system of pre-paid recharge will be implemented nor the connection will be disconnected from the office. When the meters are completely installed and no wrong messages are received, then gradually the system will be implemented keeping in mind the convenience of the consumers. However, no problem has been found in the smart meters yet. For this, the department has also installed about 1700 check meters. – Neeraj Kumar, XEN, Gajraula Division.
