Poland and Baltic States on HIGH alert after Russia issues open threat, NATO Chief visits Ukraine to…, China issues major statement

New Delhi: The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has claimed thousands of lives in the past three years. Peace is still nowhere to be seen and now it looks like the threat is looming over other countries as well. After a new threat from Russia, questions are being raised about whether Vladimir Putin is planning to target Poland and the Baltic countries. Russia’s intelligence chief, Sergei Naryshkin, has issued an open warning to NATO, stating that if Poland and the Baltic nations do not stop their “aggressive” actions, Russia will retaliate. This statement comes as Russia has intensified its bombing campaign in Ukraine, sparking global outrage.

Sergei Naryshkin, the Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, met with Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday. After the meeting, Naryshkin said, “If NATO shows aggression towards Russia and Belarus, the first to suffer will be Poland and the Baltic countries.”

Lukashenko has accused Poland and the Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) of “waving weapons” and “provoking” Russia. He also mentioned a supposed Polish plan to deploy two million anti-tank mines along the borders of Belarus and Russia’s Kaliningrad region. Latvia’s Defense Minister, Andris Spruds, also stated that his country is considering “all possible options” to strengthen its defense.

Zelensky Started the War: Donald Trump

On Sunday, a Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy killed 35 people and injured more than 100. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump sparked controversy by accusing Ukrainian President Zelensky of starting the war. Trump said, “You don’t start a war against a country 20 times bigger and then expect missiles.” Referring to the Sumy attack, Trump shocked the world by calling it merely a “mistake.”

NATO Stands with Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited Odesa with Zelensky on Tuesday and promised Ukraine “unwavering support.” Rutte said, “Russia is the aggressor in this war. There is no doubt about it.” Zelensky urged NATO to provide air defense systems to protect against Russian attacks. Rutte also made it clear that while NATO supports Trump’s ceasefire proposal, it will not abandon Ukraine. Sweden summoned the Russian ambassador and called the Russian attacks a violation of international law.
