Campus notes: Discussion on clinical diagnostics
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised an international talk on “Mass spectroscopy-based microbes identification directly from clinical samples”. The speaker was Dr Manoj Kushwaha, Post Doctoral Fellow, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA. Dr Manoj defined mass spectrometry and its relevance in microbiology, especially in clinical settings. He discussed the importance of rapid identification of pathogens in clinical diagnostics, including implications for treatment and controlling outbreaks. He described how mass spectrometry works and outlined the steps involved in using mass spectrometry to identify microbes in clinical samples (sample preparation, ionisation, data acquisition and analysis). He discussed the benefits of using mass spectrometry, such as speed, accuracy and the ability to identify a wide range of microorganisms directly from clinical samples without the need for extensive culturing.
Result of BCom Semester V
Jalandhar: Students of B.Com Semester V of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya got good results in December 2024 exams. Shamli Sharma won the first position in Guru Nanak Dev University by securing 280 marks out of 350, Sonam got third position in the university by securing 274 marks, Jiya Wadhera got sixth position in university by securing 271 marks, Parerna Sharma got seventh position with 270 marks and Prabhnoor Kaur got ninth position in university with 267 marks. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of achievers and told them to keep up the hard work and be successful in their academic life. Head of the Department Meenu Kohli also congratulated the students and encouraged them to aim for the sky and reach higher and higher in all walks of life.
Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated
The NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of DAV College celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar extended his warm wishes to the NSS volunteers. He lauded the NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of the college for their tireless efforts to celebrate events related to noble personalities of the Indian society. The programme was organised at the Dr BR Ambedkar Study Corner established within the college library. During the programme, volunteer Inderpreet gave a speech about the personality of Dr Ambedkar, while volunteers Rency, Babita, Sahaj and Bhavneet gave a reflection on his thoughts through posters and slogans. NSS co-ordinator and Red Ribbon Club in-charge Dr Sahib Singh shared important aspects about the personality of Dr Ambedkar with the volunteers. Programme Officer Prof Vivek Sharma also shared his thoughts related to the life of Babasaheb.

Amritsar: University School of Financial Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University, hosted an engaging online guest lecture by Dr Kanwal Preet Sohal. She is a seasoned financial planner based in the USA and has been appointed as Professor of Practice in the department. The session was graced by the presence of Dr Palwinder Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs, who addressed the students and encouraged them to leverage such opportunities to broaden their horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the dynamic global financial landscape. The lecture focused on the fundamentals of investment banking, offering students a comprehensive introduction to the field. Dr Sohal highlighted the diverse career opportunities within the investment banking sector and provided an overview of the skills and competencies required to excel in this competitive industry. Drawing from her extensive international experience in banking and financial planning, Dr Sohal shared practical insights and career guidance with students aspiring to enter the world of finance. Her interaction emphasised not only technical knowledge but also the importance of strategic thinking, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.
Stress awareness programme
As per the directions of Chief Khalsa Diwan president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, CKD International Nursing College organised a programme on stress awareness at the Institute of Mental Health. Dr Yashpreet Kaur, Principal, Chief Khalsa Diwan International Nursing College, said that anxiety and life are not separate, because life can never be completely free from anxiety. Therefore, it is essential for us to be aware of the physical and mental effects caused by anxiety so that they can be identified in time and the causes of anxiety can be removed. Medical Officer Dr Sayam shared detailed information about the Tele-MANAS app. Posters and models related to the topic of anxiety and its ill-effects were prepared by the students, which remained a special centre of attraction for the patients.
