Quitting will give credibility to BJP councillors: Bansal

Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal has said that the Chandigarh BJP councillors have accepted that roads, footpaths and parks in the city were in bad shape.

“They have also admitted that the community centres too suffer from lack of maintenance. Apart from this, everyone also knows that all is not well with the city’s garbage management as well,” he said, while reacting to the BJP councillors’ threat to quit over the financial crisis in the civic body.

Bansal said it was surprising and ridiculous that BJP councillors had washed off their hands by blaming the Administration directly. “The BJP government at the Centre is solely responsible for depriving the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation of its legitimate share of funds as recommended by the Delhi Finance Commission, and resultant deteriorating civic services in the city and instead imposing skyrocketing property tax on the people,” the former Chandigarh MP further said.

“If they actually put in their resignations to exert pressure on the government, their credibility among the people will surely rise,” Bansal added.
