Air hostess rape allegation in Medanta ICU: No headway by Gurugram police
In the case of an alleged rape of an air hostess by a staff member at Medanta hospital, while she was on a ventilator in the ICU, the Gurugram police are still empty-handed.
Meanwhile, the hospital has released an official statement, saying no allegations have been substantiated yet.
“We have been made aware of a complaint from a patient and have been fully cooperating with the investigations conducted by the relevant authorities. At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated, and all relevant documents, including CCTV footage from the hospital for the time period in question, have been handed over to the police. We remain committed to supporting the process of investigation”, said Dr Sanjay Durani, Medical Superintendent of Medanta, the Medicity, Gurugram, in the statement.
According to a complaint filed by the air hostess on Monday, in the presence of a legal adviser, she was staying in a Gurugram hotel for training when she nearly drowned in its swimming pool and was rushed to a private hospital. On April 5, her husband admitted her to another private hospital in Gurugram, from where she was discharged on April 13.
“On April 6, I was on a ventilator, and I was sexually assaulted by a staff member. I was in an unconscious state at the time of the incident. Two nurses were also there, but they did not intervene. I was too scared to speak. After being discharged, I told my husband about the assault, and I approached the police,” she stated in her complaint.
An FIR was registered against unidentified staff members of the hospital at Sadar police station, but the police have no clue about the accused yet. The victim’s statement was recorded before a magistrate.
“The police team is examining the footage of the hospital’s CCTV cameras and trying to identify the accused. We are investigating all aspects, and the picture will be clear soon,” said the spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
