Country’s first semi high speed train completes six years, reaches Agra from Delhi in…, its name is…

The country’s fastest running first semi high speed train Gatiman Express completed six years of operation on Tuesday. With the start of international flights, this train, which runs at a speed of 160 kmph between Delhi and Jhansi, has seen an increase in number of passengers. Till now no train has been able to operate at the speed of Gatiman in the country.

Gatiman Express, which has an unparalled speed, celebrated its sixth anniversary under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. A cake designed for the train was cut at Delhi’s Nizamuddin railway station. After this, senior loco pilot Pankaj Garg and assistant loco pilot Rajpal took command of the Gatiman Express and left for Agra. The train reached Agra Cantt station at 9:50 am in 90 minutes on its scheduled time.

The first semi-high speed train Gatiman Express was started operating between Hazrat Nizamuddin (Delhi) and Agra on April 5, 2016. Two years later, it was extended to Jhansi, but there was no change in its speed.

The speed of Gatimaan on the track between Agra and Jhansi was also increased from 130 to 180 kmph. Now it is running all weekdays except Fridays. Since the beginning of the train’s operation, Delhi Railway’s senior loco pilot Pankaj Garg has been in command. He said, “Speed of trains like Vande Bharat Express, Shatabdi, Rajdhani Express is also not more than 130 kmph. Gatimaan Express was trialled at a speed of 180 kmph. On its sixth anniversary, Gatimaan Express was flagged off from Nizamuddin.

In view of the increasing number of passengers in Agra Fort-Lucknow Intercity Express and Agra Fort-Ramnagar Express trains, the railways has increased one coach each. A 3-tier sleeper coach has been added to Lucknow Intercity and a sleeper coach to Ramnagar Express.
