Monsoon Update: Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences M Ravichandran said in a press conference that India is likely to receive more than normal rainfall in the four-month (June to September) monsoon season. The total rainfall is expected to be 105 percent of the long-term average of 87 cm. The southwest monsoon lasts from June 1 to September 30. 96 to 104 percent rainfall in the monsoon season is considered normal.
IMD Update: There is good news about monsoon, in which heavy rainfall is expected. This is good news for agriculture and economy. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that the country is likely to receive more than normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon this time.
According to the IMD’s monsoon forecast, Tamil Nadu and large parts of the Northeast region are likely to receive less than normal rainfall. While the low rainfall area of Marathwada and adjoining Telangana is likely to receive more than normal rainfall.
Above normal rainfall is expected from June to September
Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences M Ravichandran said in a press conference, ‘India is likely to receive above normal rainfall in the four-month (June to September) monsoon season. The total rainfall is expected to be 105 percent of the long-term average of 87 cm.’
The southwest monsoon lasts from June 1 to September 30. While IMD chief Mrityunjay Mahapatra said, ‘The probability of normal rainfall in the monsoon season is 30 percent, the probability of above normal rainfall is 33 percent and the probability of excessive rainfall is 26 percent.’
Heavy rains are expected in these states during monsoon
According to IMD, 96 to 104 percent rainfall in the monsoon season is considered normal. Whereas rainfall between 90 to 95 percent is considered below normal and rainfall between 105 to 110 percent is considered above normal.
During the monsoon season, normal to above normal rainfall is expected in large parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal. Whereas less than normal rainfall is expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and northeastern states.
