Chamba’s Pangi declared first natural farming subdivision

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today declared Pangi as the first natural farming subdivision of the state with a revolving grant of Rs 5 crore. He made this announcement while presiding over the Himachal Day state-level function held at Pangi in Chamba district. He unfurled the National Flag and received the ceremonial salute from the parade having six contingents.

Sukhu, while addressing the gathering, said that the improvement of the Udaipur-Killar road was the top priority of the state government. He directed the district administrations of Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba to complete all necessary formalities and expedite the road construction work.

He also announced Rs 60 per kg of minimum support price (MSP) for naturally grown barley and setting up of a milk processing plant of 10,000 litre capacity in the Pangi area. He said that to strengthen power supply in the valley, the state government was working on various projects worth Rs 62 crore. He added that Rs 5 crore was being spent on laying an 11 KV line from Tindi to Shaur and announced Rs 45.50 crore for laying a 33 KV line from Thirot to Killar.

He said that considering the unique challenges of the region, sufficient funds would be provided for the construction of mahila mandal bhawans and declared that Sach would be given the status of a sub-tehsil. To improve transportation services, Sukhu announced 20 new bus permits for the valley, along with 40 per cent subsidy on the purchase of buses and a four-month exemption from road tax.

The Chief Minister announced the opening of a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School in the Pangi Valley and the development of the Civil Hospital at Killar as an Adarsh Swasthya Sansthan. He declared the waiver of 50 per cent registration fees for homestays and announced Rs 1.5 crore for the improvement of link roads in the valley.

Sukhu said that Indira Gandhi shared a deep connection with the Pangi valley and she was the first Prime Minister to visit Pangi in 1984, after which the development of the region gained momentum. He added, “This is a testament to the Congress government’s commitment to the development of tribal areas.”

He said that the state government had made efforts to revive the economy by introducing changes in policies and laws, resulting in significant improvement in the financial condition of the state. The government had fulfilled six of the 10 guarantees the Congress had given to people and had taken several steps to strengthen the rural economy.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, MLAs Sunder Thakur and Neeraj Nayyar and HP State Cooperative Bank Chairman Devendra were present on the occasion.

PM extends good wishes to people

In his message on X, Modi said the people of culturally rich state of Himachal were known to be hard working and talented. “May the Devbhoomi of Himachal make strides on the path of development,” the Prime Minister wrote.
