Mumbai Eastern Freeway Accident: Speeding Car Rams Into Divider Near Orange Gate, 2 Dead & Several Injured; Driver Booked For Rash Driving
Mumbai: In a tragic accident on the Eastern Freeway near Orange Gate, two people lost their lives and several others sustained serious injuries after a speeding Eco car rammed into a divider early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM when a white Eco vehicle (MH-46-20427) lost control at the slope of the Orange Gate ramp and crashed.
The injured were immediately rushed to JJ Hospital with the help of Sewree Mobile-1 and ambulance services. Among the six people onboard, two passengers – Vinod Rama Wayde (52) and Anita Ramji Jaiswar (60) – were declared brought dead by doctors at 6:40 AM and 6:50 AM respectively. The other passengers are currently undergoing treatment at JJ Hospital.


Khushboo Ramnayan Rajbhar (21), a school teacher and one of the survivors, gave a detailed statement to the Sewree police. She stated that she, along with her mother Geeta Rajbhar, neighbors Vinod Wayde, Anita Jaiswar, Sulekha Wayde, and driver Chetan Nandu Patil, had left from Waghoba Nagar, Kalwa at around 4:00 AM to purchase fish from Bhaucha Dhakka in Mumbai.
According to Khushboo, despite repeated requests to drive slowly, the driver, Chetan Patil, was speeding on the Eastern Freeway. Due to the high speed, he lost control near the Orange Gate ramp, and the vehicle crashed into the divider. The impact killed two passengers and injured others, including Khushboo, her mother, and the driver himself.
Based on her complaint, the Sewree Police have registered an FIR against driver Chetan Nandu Patil under Section 281 and 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Post-mortems were conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, and the bodies were handed over to the relatives. A forensic team was called from the South Control Room to inspect the accident site. The driver and other injured persons are still undergoing treatment at JJ Hospital. Police will proceed with further action once the accused driver is discharged. The case is being investigated by PSI Dadasaheb Shinde under the guidance of senior officials.
