Woman Beaten With Sticks, Pipes Outside Bengaluru Mosque; Taliban-Style Punishment Video Sends Shockwaves Across Karnataka

Bengaluru: A group of men allegedly thrashed a 38-year-old woman outside a mosque in Karnataka's Bengaluru after her husband reportedly filed a complaint against her over a domestic dispute. The incident which took place last week was captured on camera and its video is now going viral on social media. The video of the Taliban-styled punishment sent shockwaves across the southern state.

According to a report by NDTV, the victim, Shabina Banu, was at her home in Davangere on April 7 when her relative Nasreen and her husband Fayaz visited her. The three then reportedly went out for a short outing to a hill in Bukkambudi. Nasreen and Fayaz also returned to Shabina's home in the evening.

When Shabina's husband, Jameel Ahmed, came home, he got angry after seeing Shabina's relatives at the house and then approached the Jama Masjid in Bengaluru's Tavarekere to file a complaint against her wife and her two relatives. Ahmed accused his wife of having illicit affair.

The three people were summoned by the mosques on April 9. However, when Shabina reached the mosque, six men started assaulting her with sticks and pipes. She got severely injured in the attack.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Niyaz (32), Mohammad Gauspeer (45), Chand Basha (35), Dastagir (24), Rasool T R (42) and Inayat Ullah (51). after the video went viral, the sex men were taken into custody.

The incident sparked online outrage after the video went viral.

Reacting to the incident, Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma stated that Karnataka is becoming "Taliban ruled state" under the Congress government.

"Every Sharia zone is an Islamic state and Baba's holy book has zero power," an X user wrote.

"Complaints are being filled in Mosques instead of Courts/PS -Punishments are being decided by Maulana instead of Judge -Execution by Islamists instead of police. Sharia rule is established in Inclusive Karnataka under Congress?" a user wrote.

All six accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder, conspiracy and assault.

A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.
