UP: Elderly Woman Murdered By Brother-In-Law Over A Pair Of Gold Earrings; Disposes Of Body In Canal; Shocking Video Surfaces

Muzaffarnagar: A 65-year-old woman who had been missing for three days was found murdered, with her body stuffed in a sack in a canal near the Kalandi village in Meerut’s Sardhana. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim, identified as Saroj, a resident of Daulatpur village, was killed by her brother-in-law over a pair of gold earrings.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, Saroj had been missing since April 11. Her son, Avinash, lodged a complaint at the Sikhera police station, expressing fear that someone might have killed his mother and disposed of the body.

During the investigation, the police examined a CCTV footage from the village which showed the victim’s 56-year-old brother-in-law, Bhanwar Singh, carrying a large sack on his motorcycle; however, he returned after 15 minutes, without the sack. This suspicious movement became a critical lead for the police in the case.

Some shocking visuals from the crime scene surfaced on social media:

Station in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh told Dainik Jagran, “After watching the CCTV footage, it was found that Saroj goes to her brother-in-law Bhanwar Singh’s house. Shortly after, he is seen leaving towards the canal with a sack.”

On Monday (April 14) morning, a sack was spotted floating in the canal near Kalandi village. With the help of local residents, the police retrieved the body from the water, which was later identified as Saroj’s. The body was shortly sent for post-mortem examination.

What Did the Investigation Reveal?

Preliminary investigation revealed that Bhanwar Singh may have tried to snatch Saroj’s gold earrings. When she resisted, he allegedly killed her and disposed of the body. “The woman's gold earrings are missing. It is suspected that she was murdered when she resisted the snatching,” the station officer told the publication

The accused is currently absconding, and the police are actively searching for him. The canal through which the body was found flows from Daulatpur to Meerut, which aided the disposal of the body across district lines.

Authorities say the exact motive behind the crime will be ascertained once the accused is arrested.
