Murshidabad: Berhampore TMC MP Yusuf Pathan on Tuesday shared a post on micro-blogging website X wishing the people of his constituency "a very Happy Pohela Boishakh," also known as the Bengali New Year. Yusuf Pathan's post comes just days after widespread violence over the newly passed Waqf Amendment Act in Murshidabad district, which falls under his Lok Sabha constituency.
"Wishing everyone a very Happy Pohela Boishakh! May this Bengali New Year bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to all. Warm greetings to my people of Berhampore and across Bengal," the post read. The post had his picture,TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishekh Banerjee's picture.
Slammed For Picture Enjoying Tea
Just days ago, Yusuf Pathan shared a post sipping tea. The post was accompanied by a caption which read,"Easy afternoons, good chai, and calm surroundings. Just soaking in the moment."
The post quickly drew the ire of netizens and political opponents, who accused the TMC MP of being indifferent to the ongoing violence in nearby areas and questioned his silence. Notably, the TMC MP is yet to speak on the unrest that led to the killing of 3.

Meanwhile, Bengalis across the world are celebrating Pohela Boishakh, also known as Poila Baisakh or Noboborsho the traditional new year day of the Bengalis.
The day is celebrated as the start of the new year of the Bengali calendar. Poila or Pohela means first-referring to the first day of the month of Baisakh in the Hindu calendar.
