Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid - Who Plays What In Upcoming Harry Potter Series?
The makers of the highly-anticipated Harry Potter web series officially announced the first set of cast members on Monday. While they are yet to reveal the names of the actors playing the lead trio, the makers shared who will play some of the most popular characters of the story -- Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, Hagrid, Argus Filch, among others.
Francesca Gardiner, showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, who will be directing several episodes of the show and is also the executive producer, released an official statement, announcing the cast. "We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch," they said.
"We're delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can't wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life," they added.

John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
Jihn Lithgow, who has been a part of some of the most popular films and shows, including Interstellar, How I Met Your Mother, and The Crown, among others, is set to step into the shoes of the Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Speaking about coming on board the Harry Potter web series and accepting the role, Lithgow said, "It was not an easy decision because it's going to define me for the last chapter of my life."
Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
Janet McTeer will be seen as the new Professor McGonagall, a role which has been immortalised by Maggie Smith with her portrayal in the Harry Potter films. McTeer has earlier been a part of Me Before You, Ozark, Jessica Jones, Sense and Sensibility, Wuthering Heights, and others.
Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
Fans were most excited to know who will be playing the iconic role of Professor Severus Snape in the new Harry Potter show, and turns out that the makers have already finalised a name. Actor Paapa Essiedu will be seen taking over the role of Snape in the upcoming HBO series.
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
Nick Frost is set to play the role of one of the most lovable characters of the Harry Potter fable, Rubeus Hagrid. He has earlier been a part of How To Train Your Dragon, The World's End, Paul, Krazy House, and other movies.
Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
Actor Luke Thallon is all set to play Professor Quirrell in the Harry Potter series. Widely known in the theatre world, Luke's stint with the cult fable is sure to propel him to global fame.
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch
Actor Paul Whitehouse is all set to essay the role of the formidable Hogwarts keeper, Argus Filch, in the new HBO series. The 66-year-old has worked in films like Nurse, Paul Whitehouse, The Death Of Stalin, among others. Interestingly, he also had a blink-and-miss appearance as Sir Cadogan in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
