School notes: Shivalik Public School

The 55th Founder’s Day of Shivalik Public School, Mohali, was celebrated with great fervour on Saturday, commemorating over five decades of educational excellence. The event began with the recitation of the Sri Sukhmani Sahib path, followed by kirtan and ardaas, seeking divine blessings for the continued growth and prosperity of the institution.Principal Poonam Rani reaffirmed the school’s steadfast commitment to excellence in education. She pledged to uphold the core values of perseverance, courage and dedication, reiterating the school’s mission of nurturing young minds. A PowerPoint presentation showcasing the school’s rich history and legacy was presented, offering students a meaningful insight into its journey over the years. The event concluded with refreshments served to all attendees. The celebration not only honoured the institution’s past achievements but also renewed its pledge to provide quality education and foster holistic development. The day stood as a heartfelt reminder of Shivalik Public School’s proud legacy and inspired a continued commitment to shaping future leaders.

Government Senior Secondary School

A golden jubilee reunion of the 1975 batch (Section A) alumni was held at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16. During the event, alumnus Arvind Jain-renowned social worker and member of several organisations- donated 1.5-ton inverter air conditioners for all 35 classrooms of the school. With this generous contribution, the school has now become fully air-conditioned, making it the first government school in North India and the second in the country to achieve this distinction.

Shishu Niketan Secondary School

Navya, a class 5 student of Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, achieved an outstanding milestone by securing the first rank at the Zonal Level in the prestigious Science Olympiad conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). Competing among thousands of talented students from across the zone, Navya stood out with her exceptional grasp of scientific concepts and her analytical skills.

Shishu Niketan Public School

Shishu Niketan Public School, Sector 66, celebrated Baisakhi with enthusiasm. The kindergarten wing of the school was decorated depicting the harvest season. Kindergarten children were dressed in colourful Punjabi traditional attires with ornaments and accessories. The students brought sumptuous dishes in their lunch boxes to mark the festivity. Besides this, the students were also made aware about the Ambedkar Jayanti.

Mount Carmel School

Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, commenced its new academic session for Kindergarten to Class 12. To mark the beginning of the session, a special assembly was conducted. Dr Parveena John Singh, the School Principal, extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to all students and teachers.

Smart Wonders School

The students of the Foundation Years at Smart Wonders School, Sector 71 celebrated Baisakhi bringing the spirit of festivity, culture and tradition alive on the campus. Children participated in a variety of engaging activities including Punjabi folk dance performances, music, storytelling and craft sessions where they made Baisakhi-themed artwork.

Litera Heritage School

Litera Heritage Senior Secondary School celebrated Baisakhi festival with the beats of drums and folk music. Children made paintings based on Baisakhi and decorated their classrooms on the theme of Baisakhi. Kindergarten children were dressed in colourful Punjabi costumes. The students presented a colourful programme depicting the culture of Punjab in which Gidda and Bhangra were the main attractions.

Gurukul Global School

Gurukul Global School celebrated the festival of Baisakhi with a vibrant and spiritually uplifting Special Assembly that beautifully reflected the essence of tradition and festivity. A poem on ‘Baisakhi’ capturing the joy and spirit of the festival was presented, while a presentation highlighting the festival’s cultural, historical and agricultural significance captivated the audience.

SD Public School

The Interact Club of PML SD Public School, Sector 32, and NSS organised a noble initiative – a Blood Donation Camp titled “Jeevan Dhara" – on its campus, reinforcing the school’s deep commitment to social responsibility and community welfare. The camp ensured a safe, hygienic, and efficient donation process under the supervision of certified medical professionals. Post Graduate Government College

An orientation programme for Psychology students of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, at the Durg De-addiction Treatment Centre (DDTC), Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The programme was organised collaboratively by the DDTC and the Manchitra Society, Department of Psychology, PGGC-11. A total of 30 postgraduate students, accompanied by Dr Divya Monga and Dr Narinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, PGGC-11, actively participated in the event.

Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College

Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) 7.0 of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36, organised a comprehensive two-day “workshop on Prototype Design and Development cum Innovative Idea Competition". As many 77 students participated in the workshop. Day one of the workshop commenced with a comprehensive session led by the resource person Er Sukhvinder Singh, focusing on both the theoretical and practical aspects of electrical components and devices. The resource person conducted live demonstration of two key electrical devices; an energy saver device and a water leveller. While, day two started with an innovative idea competition.

Punjab Engineering College

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) celebrated the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. An insightful documentary, highlighting the life and achievements of Dr BR Ambedkar was presented followed by an address by Prof Balwinder Singh, where he gave insights on the workings of the cell and the various initiatives undertaken to support students and staff from marginalised communities.

Government College of Commerce and Business Administration

Government College of Commerce and Business Administration (GCCBA), Sector 50, organised an expert session on drug awareness followed by the valedictory function of the VADA Club in the college conference room. The event aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to recognise the efforts of dedicated student members of the VADA Club for their contributions throughout the academic session.

Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University appointed Dr Harsh Sadawarti as its new Vice Chancellor. An academic leader with a strong background in research, innovation and institutional development, Dr Sadawarti steps into the role with a vision to elevate the university’s academic and societal impact. . Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor, joined by Dr Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor, and Dr Sandeep Singh, president of the university welcomed the new Vice Chancellor.
