Baba Saheb’s legacy celebrated

Rich Tributes were paid to the father of the Indian constitution Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on his 134th birthday at various functions held across the region.

The main function was held at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Chowk at Jagera Road, where office-bearers and activists of various organisations paid tributes to the great social reformer.

Ahmedgarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra, Raikot MLA Hakam Singh Thekedar, Payal MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura and Ahmedgarh Municipal Council president Vikas Krishan Sharma chaired different functions.

Speakers, including Gajjan Majra, Thekedar, Giaspura, Sharma , Captain Buta Singh (Ambedkar Society), Dr Jaswinder Singh Kalakh (Medical Practitioners Association) hailed the efforts of Ambedkar as a social reformer, an advocate and a politician, who paved the way for uplifting the lower strata of Indian society.

Organisers called upon members of all strata of society to help the administration in bringing an end to discrimination, based on caste and creed, and to strengthen communal harmony in the state.

“The sacrifices of Baba Saheb and his followers will yield results only when members of the upper strata follow the Indian Constitution in letter and spirit,” said Gajjan Majra. He claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party government was committed to implementing the ideologies and recommendations of Dr Ambedkar. “Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has already proven that we are following the ideologies of Dr Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in our personal and public lives. Contrary to earlier trends, when successive chief ministers made their presence felt in corridors of power, we have ensured that only portraits of Dr Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh are hung in government offices,” said Gajjan Majra.

Besides organising functions at various places in the region, office-bearers of various organisations took out rallies in their respective areas.
