Modi government weakening Constitutional institutions: DPCC chief
Delhi Congress leaders, led by DPCC president Devender Yadav, paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar at Rajiv Bhawan here on Monday, reaffirming the party’s commitment to Ambedkar’s vision of social justice, equality and empowerment for Dalits, Adivasis and backward communities.
Addressing party workers, Yadav said the Congress had consistently upheld Dr Ambedkar’s ideals and fought to safeguard the rights of marginalised communities.
“Dr Ambedkar worked tirelessly to eliminate discrimination through education and constitutional rights. The Congress will continue to fight to ensure his vision is not diluted,” he said.
He accused the BJP-led Central Government of working to “subvert the Constitution” and gradually undermine reservations meant for the uplift of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
“The Modi government is weakening Constitutional institutions, silencing the Opposition in Parliament, and misusing investigative agencies like the ED, CBI and Income Tax to target dissenting voices,” Yadav alleged.
The DPCC chief also criticised the RSS, claiming that its ideology is at odds with Ambedkar’s inclusive and progressive outlook. He said the Congress remains steadfast in opposing the “divisive agenda” of the BJP-RSS.
Highlighting the recent Congress session in Ahmedabad, Yadav said the party had passed resolutions to protect and empower marginalised communities under the leadership of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
“The Congress-ruled Telangana government has increased reservations to 42 per cent, a clear indication of the party’s dedication to inclusive development,” he said.
Yadav also reiterated Rahul Gandhi’s call for a caste census and stronger constitutional safeguards to ensure equal opportunities for all.
“This is essential to give the underprivileged a fair chance to succeed and truly honour Babasaheb’s vision,” he said. Several senior Congress leaders were present.
