State to promote grappling sports among youth, says Himachal Education Minister
Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Monday said the state government will make every possible effort to promote grappling sports in Himachal Pradesh, enabling young athletes to shine on the national and international stage. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2nd National Grappling Wrestling Championship held in Chhota Shimla.
Addressing the gathering, the minister highlighted the ancient origins of grappling, stating that the sport dates back to early civilisations and continues to evolve across the globe. He praised the performance of athletes from Himachal as well as other parts of the country, noting their impressive progress in the discipline.
Thakur emphasised that the promotion of sports is a top priority for the state government, not only for physical development but also as a means to engage youth in positive pursuits. “Sports serve as a powerful tool to keep young minds away from the menace of substance abuse,” he said.
He congratulated the organisers for successfully hosting the championship and expressed confidence that such events would inspire more participation and interest in grappling.
