VIDEO: PM Modi Accuses Congress Of Spreading ‘Votebank Ka Virus’, Defends Waqf Amendment Act As Step Towards Real Social Justice
Chandigarh: Accusing Congress of spreading "votebank ka virus’’ over its opposition to the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, Prime minister Narendra Modi on Monday held that the new Waqf law will ensure the "real social justice’’.
Addressing a rally after inaugurating the maiden commercial flight from Haryana’s Hisar to Ayodhya, Modi also hit out at Congress alleging that it treated the scheduled caste/scheduled tribe communities as ``second-class citizens’’. He also laid the foundation stone of a new terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport.
Modi held that while Dr Ambedkar wanted to bring equality, the Congress spread the virus of vote-bank politics. Dr Ambedkar wanted every poor and every backward to live with dignity and to have dreams and fulfil them, he said. Modi went on to allege that Congress "humiliated’’ Baba Saheb Ambedkar and tried to erase his memory and it even fought elections against him and made him lose twice. "While Dr Ambedkar was protector of the Constitution, the Congress has become a destroyer of the Constitution’’, he alleged.
Stating that even though there are lakhs of hectares of land under the Waqf Board, its properties and assets have not been used to help the poor and needy. "They would have benefited, had these been given to the poor and the needy’’, he said and alleged that the land mafia benefited from these properties. Modi held that the new Waqf las would end the ``loot of land’’ and benefit the poor and Pasmanda Muslims.
Lashing out at Congress for its stand against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, Modi alleged that Congress only appeased Muslim fundamentalists and opposition to the new Waqf law proves it.
"If Congress is really concerned for Muslims’ welfare, why does it not make a Muslim its president and reserve 50% of its election tickets for Muslim candidates so that they can raise their concerns’’, he asked.

Modi who also addressed a rally in Yamunanagar after laying the foundation stone of 800-MW unit at the thermal power plant, referred to the felling of the trees in Telangana and said that while the Congress government is busy clearing jungles, BJP government is making biogas plants to generate renewable energy.
Modi, who also digitally inaugurated the 14.4 km Rewari bypass worth over Rs 1,070 crore, counted the achievements and initiatives of the BJP governments and hit out at Congress. He alleged Congress governments had betrayed the people in the states it ruled.
